Grassland Bird Habitat Awareness at Roundabout Meadows
Thanks to those of you who came on the picnic lunch in the meadow last Tuesday. I loved seeing everyone. It always gives me great pleasure to share new reasons why our efforts at Roundabout Meadows are so important.
What a terrific opportunity we had to hear from Amy and October. We all now even more aware about what birds depend on our grasslands and how valuable the voids created by meadow grasses and shrubs are for safe nesting. The seedbeds provide valuable nutrition and safe hiding for a healthy bird habitat.
I am sharing your contacts with Amy who would like to follow up with some useful links and info beyond what we learned.
Please also enjoy some photos of our glorious afternoon. Thanks to all!
Missy

Richmond Trip
Richmond Trip
What can I say?! Aline Day guided our group to Richmond complete with parking instructions and weather report! She left nothing to chance and it was flawless. We arrived with time to spare for our 9:30 guided tour ( a more peaceful time before the museum even opens) of Fine Art and Flowers at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
We are SO thankful to Aline for all of the arrangements ~ she is a pro! Our group included Catherine Adams, Daphne Cheatham, Gail Clark, Elizabeth Courts, Harriett Condon, Louise Crane, Ilona Croft, Libby Devlin, Aline Day, Mary Marshall Hansen, Sheila Harrell, Kassie Kingsley, Janna Leepson, Linda MacLean, Peggy Rust, Linda Taylor, Kate Willliams, a guest, Georgiana Watt and Telle Zeiler.
Afterwards we had time to wander in the museum (the Paul Mellon Collection had just reopened after 4 years). Ladies were early once again to see the newly refreshed Kent Valentine House, have lunch and a brief tour.
Highlights were seeing the arrangement June Hambrick did for the exhibition, (see the pictures Gladys sent me below) and discovering Lea Shuba’s interpretive arrangement outside as she had promised.
Have a great day ~ and enjoy these pictures~

Nicky Perry's Lovely Garden
Ladies,
What a perfect way to start the week !
Nine members, including Daphne, Bean, Libby, Jane Kates, Janna,
Christine, Linda Taylor, Georgiana, myself and 2 guests wandered the graceful paths leading from one gracious parterre to another in Nicky Perry’s garden.
The pleasing mixture of perennials, shrubs and trees, along with the various textures, water features and statues created a beautiful harmony with all of the surrounding wildlife….It fed the eyes, ears and soul.
It was hard to leave!!!
Thank you to Nicky…

Mushroom Adventure
Mushroom Adventure
We had quite the adventure on Mushroom Monday! Aline Day, Libby Devlin, Nick Devlin, Georgiana Watt and myself were guided by Steve Haas, a jack of all trades…. including wilderness survival! Thanks to Aline for driving. It was fun!!!
We did not come home empty handed ~ and learned much about many topics that I am still processing!!

Lisa Catlett, Harriett Condon, Elizabeth Courts, Susanne Lamb and Madeleine,
and Christine Perdue-Smith thank you SO much Jeannie for sharing your
garden with us!!!Also, Harriett Condon urges us to keep an eye out on the GCA website for

Leesburg Post Office Work Day
Leesburg Post Office Work Day
Good rainy morning!
On Monday, Mary Marshall Hansen, Jane Kates and myself tackled the very public garden space next to the Leesburg Post Office.
It was a much neglected and very visible site that is now dandelion free, weeded and mulched with a few new plants, and more to come!
We felt very accomplished and it was SO much fun!!!! Thanks to them for wanting to “get their hands in the dirt”!
So excited ~ Jeannie Perin has opened her gardens at “ Edgewood” for a pop-up tour next Thursday, June 17, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
Edgewood - 1676 Rokeby Road, Upperville ~ Thank you – Jeannie!!
There is more ! - Nicky Perry is opening her gardens at “Oakwood” to us for a tour in late September! Date is TBD ~ So nice of her!
We have reservations for a tour at HaaShushrooms in Goochland August 1 and /or August 2. It is a mushroom farm that was featured in Virginia Living this month -
And an opportunity to identify, harvest and learn all things mushrooms in the cool of the forests along streams. Let me know if you are interested in going. Road trip!
I look forward to see y’all this Wednesday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Lauren Woolcott’s.
Have a wonderful day~
Peggy
